A Name with Meaning

VAANI comes from the Sanskrit for voice. To us, every piece carries two voices, the artisan expressing their craft and the woman expressing who she is.

Each piece begins with carefully selected Indian fabrics , some woven by artisan partners, others from trusted textile mills ,chosen to feel effortless while honouring India's rich textile heritage.

Every garment is then finished with thoughtful handcrafted detailing before it becomes part of a limited production run.

VAANI works out of a studio in Shillong - a real place, with a door you can walk through.

This is where the collections hang, where commissions begin over a conversation, and where fittings happen. Racks of finished pieces, a mirror, a chair , and the people who make VAANI what it is.

Founder & Creative Director

Before the label, there was a girl who
noticed beauty everywhere.

Shillong raised me, and nature shaped me. My first inspirations were close to home, my mother’s love for handmade sarees, and my teachers in beautiful Jainsems with carefully matched accessories. I learned to notice detail very early.

Fashion college gave me the foundation of design, detail and discipline. But my voice came from everything after, the artisans whose hands taught me patience, the places whose colours found their way into my work, and a practice of yoga and stillness that keeps me grounded.

More than anything, I want Vaani to give back to the crafts and the artisans it is built on, to keep traditional techniques alive, and to make sure the hands behind each piece are recognised and fairly valued.
